Abramoff Indicted; Cops Plea

Jack pleads to three felonies, in exchange for limiting his sentence to 10 years. They must have a shitload on this jerk. Can you hear the jingle of dropping dimes?

Obviously we don't know the terms of the deal. Looks like at least Rep. Ney (R) is getting flipped on - Ney if you remember is the crook who stuffed language into the congressional record in order to influence the sale of SunCruz. DeLay likely as well.

The actual indictment here.

I am pretty sure that Representative #1 is Tom Delay. Abramoff paid for an expensive golfing trip to Scotland for Delay and that is mentioned in the complaint.

Actually Rep #1 is probably Ney because it says he is a "committee chair". House Admin. Committee; DeLay isn't a chair. Both crooks were toasted with golfing trips to Scotland.

Wow, it's pretty bad when the net is cast so broadly that you can't even tell who's who.

I can't wait to hear from the Republicans how corruption is actually good for our government. I can't predict how they will justify such a stance, but the logic of their ideology requires that if the Republicans do it, its good.

That WaPo bit that shows how Delay was taking cash from Russians for help getting Federal Government handouts is the most damning information I have yet heard.

I asked my Criminal Justice professor what advice he would give to Abramoff if he was representing him. He said he would advise him to hire a food tester - sound advice if you ask me, there are at least 20 Congressmen who want Abramoff to go to sleep.

One of the better dKos diaries outlining the basics of the Republican pay-to-play scheme now under threat with the Abramoff plea.

Another good piece of advice for Abramoff - buy yourself a few barrels of vaseline. As fresh meet in federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison, you'll need it.

Abramoff gained about 40 pounds, maybe he wanted to be less attractive for his time in the big house.

Everyone who is anyone in the Republican Congressional leadership is implicated in some way. However, the real feeding frenzy will take place when the House reconvenes in a few weeks. Delay is out for good. The remaining leadership will go to the mattresses to decide who succeeds him. Since a number of these guys are also under the FBI microscope, the pecking order has been shaken up quite a bit. It will not be easy for them to pick a new leader. Expect a long and bloody political battle that will further erode the power of Republicans in Congress. The stage is set for a historic realignment in November. The “fall” can’t come soon enough.
