Time to Impeach; Take the Time to Educate Yourselves (i.e., Be a Citizen)

All the info you need to make an informed choice is in this post's links. Feel free to disagree, but if you agree, action is desperately needed.

Here's the relevant text from the Constitution:

Section. 4. The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

Now, read this. It's The Federalist #69 by Alexander Hamilton. Ur-text on impeachment; see also here, #77, also Hamilton.

Next, read this report, The Constitution in Crisis (PDF) -- at least the Executive Summary and (short) chapters IV and V on the legal arguments and recommendations. Put together by John Conyers (D-Michigan), the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee.

Finally, compare that report to the articles of impeachment drawn up against Nixon. And against Clinton.

Seems like the prima facie case against Bush is right up there, no?

Please send this around to everyone you know, and encourage them to conatct their representative and senators and to write letters to their local papers asking that the Conyers bills be supported. These bills include immediate censure of Bush and Cheney, and they are explained in the document linked above in "Chapter V: Recommendations." Or, check them out here once they hit the system. They are H.Res. 635, 636, and 637. From a Democrats.com e-mail:

H.Res.635 would create a select committee - modeled after Sam Ervin's Watergate committee - to investigate the Administration's intent to go to war before congressional authorization, manipulation of pre-war intelligence, encouraging and countenancing torture, and retaliating against critics, and to make recommendations regarding grounds for possible impeachment.

H.Res.636 and H.Res.637 would censure, respectively, Bush and Cheney for failing to respond to requests for information concerning allegations that they and others in the Administration misled Congress and the American people regarding the decision to go to war in Iraq, misstated and manipulated intelligence information regarding the justification for the war, countenanced torture and cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment of persons in Iraq, and permitted inappropriate retaliation against critics of the Administration, for failing to adequately account for certain misstatements they made regarding the war, and – in the case of President Bush – for failing to comply with Executive Order 12958.

Please take the time to write your own e-mails/letters. It takes little time and has far more impact than canned e-mails/letters.

Mainstream media is ignoring this, of course. All that's hit MSM, as of today, is this AP wire story. Doesn't quite cover it, does it?

Only a bottom-up groundswell will do it. We can't sit around and wait for someone else to do this for us.

If you're already up on all this -- great! Forward it to everyone you know, then, please!
