"With Beezelbub on Our Side"

Preach it, Tom.

"Who needs ‘liberals’ like Lieberman, et al, when they plug in the electrode that Dick Cheney waves with glee?"

I have always argued that if member of the Democratic party lack basic standards of ethics, and loyalty to our most important beliefs, they should be kicked out. Every individual on that list, with the possible exception of Sen. Landrieu (who has to kiss ass to save her state from oblivion) should be excommunicated. Only Leiberman makes me doubt my opposition to torture, and for entirely the wrong reasons.

Tom is a good speaker/writer.

I always feel kind of sick and disgusted after coming here and reading the articles posted. Its kind of like taking medicine though. Just when I think my naturally optimistic nature will win out-I come here and rediscover the 'darkness of the human heart'.

Its not really a bad thing...keeps me working at doing what I can to make the world a better place.

How can you guys stand being Americans? I hope things turn around and you can go back to being a proud nation.

Good question - we have a friend who took off for Vienna right after 9/11 because he could read the writing on the wall. We decided to stay and fight . . just think - if we all left then just imagine what sort of America it'd be..

you're right of course P. And I do admire the people who are trying to make a positive change. It just seems overwhelming these days.

Kyahgirl, Pawl,

Don't be too hard on Deutsch Mark. To be fair, he couldn't pay his taxes.

However, we have a duty to our children, and to the children of the world to prevent our country from falling further into fascism. It is a very common and highly dangerous assumption that fascism results from cultural or historical circumstances alone. Although it is obvious that certain circumstances encourage the sort of hate and exclusivity that characterized fascism, we must not ignore that this terrible ideology serves a basic psychological need for many deluded individuals. You can see it today in the blind loyalty of some Republicans. They claim to prefer small government, fiscal conservatism, isolationism, and respect for human life, and yet they will support to the end an administration which has completely abandoned these goals, choosing the opposite course in each instance.

Today, the stakes are far higher than they were during the Second World War. T.V. and radio propaganda is far more sophisticated than Hitler’s highly effective poster campaigns, computer databases track political enemies, and surveillance equipment is increasingly common. Worse yet, each of these technologies is being pushed as the solution to terror. We have already yielded many of our civil rights to the battle against terror. It is a simple trick to scare the public into giving up the rest. Those who give up their freedom to feel more secure are by definition cowards. I hope that this blogg can help some of our fellow citizens to find the courage to follow their convictions and not the leaders who have betrayed them.
