Score one for Sen. Chafee (R-RI)

From one of the "immoral" Republicans.

Doug,

Instead of just randomly pointing out that some Republican occationally agree with you, why don't you ask yourself this, "why is Chafee still a Republican?" He has other options. Evidently he doesn't feel that torture, murder, rape and corruption are strong enough reasons to jump ship. On the face of it, that appears to be an immoral choice. Maybe you disagree, but I think the company you keep says a lot about you. Chafee has an opportunity to stand up for what is right, but he has decided that his own political skin is more important. That's not the kind of moral character I admire.

I have been thinking quite seriously about that very notion. Should I be thought less of because of my association with someone as rabid as you, or will people realize that I can be friends with someone with whom I completely disagree on many deep issues?

In other words, do people judge me by my associations -- and assign guilt thereby -- or do they judge me by my independent actions?

I have decided that regardless of what people do or think on that score (and the reactions will vary and have varied as one would suppose), I will maitain my association with you, as I believe people are rational enough not to assign guilt-by-association, and can follow our disagreements and make their own conclusions. Rationally.
