Mark Warner -- A Good Intro

Search for "Mark Warner" (or go to the left nav's "Road to the White House") and pick this:

RTWH: Gov. Mark Warner (D-VA) in New Hampshire (11/20/2005)

This is what Demo saw, I believe.

He's funny and self-effacing and either is fairly real and comfortable-looking or has learned to fake it well.

Hmmm...don't know a thing about his policies. Draft Mark Warner site -- no issues up yet (under construction). His governor site (check it out soon!). Here's his PAC.

I'll be watching this unfold with interest, as Warner is indeed becoming the DNC 2008 pick du jour. In particular, it will be interesting to see what Dems think he stands for. I, for one, have no idea. By the middle of his terms as Virginia governor, he was being criticized by Dems as not having really done anything, and showing an unwillingness to try to make changes, after two consecutive GOP governors. Both Allen and Gilmore were known as tax busters, while Warner became known for ... well ... nothing. And I say that as a Virginian, so I have had a decent view on this.

Truth is, he only pushed for a tax hike (in a budget surplus environment that continues, BTW) when he knew that he had willing GOP accomplices at the top of the Virginia Senate. They are the ones who made the eventual tax compromise happen, to the chagrin of the GOP base.

But I honestly can't think of one thing that he did or stood for as governor. He just played it safe, protected his career, didn't really do anything, and now is receiving accolades that appear to have materialized only because his successor was elected in an anti-Bush backlash.

I'm not sure why that makes him such great shakes for the Democratic Party.

Did you watch the C-SPAN video? Why not see him in action.

I haven't made any decisions yet; if anything, I lean towards Edwards. But you never know who's going to come from nowhere, and if Gore runs, he's got my vote. Hands down, he's the best qualified person to be president that I know of.
