A long record of double-standardized society usually makes for a powder keg. As we see in I/P. Paul's experience in France sounds much like what I heard from others, including Karen, my French-Jewish ex-girlfriend, who not only told me many stories about French anti-Semitism but also herself was a prime example of French anti-Arabism; she referred to Arabs as "animals" -- more, it seemed to me, out of French prejudice than Jewish, which is interesting, but certainly not unexpected.

Sure, everything's more complicated than one article, but tell me in what fashion the unrest in France now is not explained by racism, economic dislocation, and the other causes referred to in this article. Would be interested to hear...
