Carter's (In)famous Interview...

...let's see how accurate and complete the Washington Times' report was...see Thornblog for commentary. ;)

Search "After Words: Jimmy Carter interviewed by Brian Williams" when this gets bumped from C-SPAN's homepage.

Should just link to C-SPAN's homepage...works for me.

You gotta find the link on the homepage: "After Words: Jimmy Carter interviewed by Brian Williams"; still there.

I can't link to videos automatically; they're Javascript "links".

As I expected, Carter's take on abortion is far more nuanced than the Washington Times would have you think. He simply says that Jesus wouldn't have gone for it, and that Democrats should allow more latitude in the positions they take on it. Not much different than Hillary Clinton's recent views; don't see her lauded in the rightwing press, though.

Anyway, I'm just reporting what it was -- 45 seconds out of 1 hour that lambasted the Bush administration in extremely strong terms.

No, I don't really agree with him -- unless he means coming to some kind of "safe, legal, and rare" situation, which would actually reduce the number of abortions out here in the real world by linking sane sex education and free or nearly free birth control to a "bipartisan" ("bi-" or "superideological" is better) campaign to "End Needless Abortions in the Real World."

That would not limit the freedoms of women, but it would vastly reduce the number of abortions.

Other than Jamie Dawn, I've never come across a prolifer willing to even entertain this notion -- mostly because the abortion issue is not about fetuses per se but rather about rolling back social changes of the last 50 years, equal rights for women among them.
