Public Opinion

Walter Lippmann. 1921.

The Ur-text from which "manufacturing consent" sprang...but with a different meaning than the one Lippmann wanted.

Doug, Off topic here. I think I might get hit by a hurricane later this week so I wanted to send you my best wishes for your wedding while I still have an internet connection! Being married is a truly wonderful thing, congratulations!

Thanks, chief.

pawlr -- this book I posted here is right up your alley. Very Lakovian! LOL.

Seriously, Chomsky refers to this all the time -- not positively, but more neutrally. It's really brilliant and a quick read.

I'm rapidly becoming a democratic socialist/anarchosyndacalist, btw. I'm sure that that will get me arrested in some neo-Palmer raid, but I'll continue to assume that we have freedom of thought in this country.

Chomsky's work, plus simply observing our rotting "republic," is making me think that the solution has to be more radical. Not violent, not statist, but radical.
