The Disaster Profiteering Act

Coming soon to a Congress near you:

House Government Reform Chairman Tom Davis (R-VA) and Representative Kenny Marchant (R-TX) introduced legislation that will waive meaningful taxpayer protections and competition in contracting whenever Congress or the President declares a national emergency or there is a disaster. It is rumored that the legislation will be included in a manager’s amendment to the next Katrina relief bill. Project On Government Oversight (POGO) has dubbed the legislation (H.R. 3766) the “Disaster Profiteering Act.”

Check the full list of contractors here. I'm trying to find out now which of these are "no-bid" and "cost-plus". "Cost-plus" means that these contractors are guaranteed a profit, no matter how wasteful their subcontracting expenses are.

I was in the subway yesterday and this Hispanic Preacher was trying to save souls. I told him "Yo soy el diablo" and he got really agitated.

He believes man . . . he believes that the Devil is out there. You just confirmed his hunch that the Devil was a white man.

Certainly the goal of this admin and its Congressional allies is not to help the people. As long as they can get away with fooling enough people enough of the time, they will continue to fleece the country, either for greed, for Dominionist reasons, or both.

Strategy for 2006? I say we each concentrate on the closest House election with the best chance of going Democratic (or of flipping to the GOP) and fight like hell.

I am with you 100% Doug. I fought like hell in 2004 and I'll fight like hell 'til the put me in the ground.

The hardest thing about all this is seeing people I loved and respected full of hate. Somehow their insecurities over their own sexuality, morality or even income is projected as a rabid hatred of gays, blacks, jews, liberals and anyone who dares to question the drug-addled ex-whino they call a "leader."

So soon after his death, must we fight Maoism again? This time on the streets of America? Our great nation has been brought to its knees.
