US HOUSE Ohio 2nd Dist

US HOUSE Ohio 2nd Dist
662 precincts of 753 reporting
JEAN SCHMIDT 49,681 50%
PAUL HACKETT 48,811 50%

No matter what happens from here on out, the GOP in OH is in trouble. If Hackett gets all of his votes counted and wins, the national political climate will quickly change to adapt. Expect more of the ham-handed "g-save" defense and a shift towards greater tax cuts.

Still all Repub precincts outstanding but this is a major statement. This district went 70-30 for Bush, and no Dem has ever gotten higher than 30%.

Word has it the remaining precincts are slow to count because "humidity" is causing the ballots to stick together. That is just about the fishyest thing I have ever heard.

Hackett needs to keep his head about him. However, he can always run against Schmitt in 2006 when she's even more vulnerable.

The only thing he shouldn't do at this point is concede prematurely..

Ok, the results are in. A 4% victory for Schmitt. Does that require a recount?

Were any votes collected on touchscreen machines without a paper trail? If so, what percentage?

I think the entire election was done with paper ballots. However, the last 90 precincts were from Schmitt territory and came in well after the others. This leads me to believe there was some funny business.
