Oh, this is fair

It's not fair - but the headline is just plain wrong. The Israeli law says that only actions committed by ORGANIZATIONS hostile to the State of Israel are considered terrorism. The plain meaning of the law is that if a lone nut goes crazy on a bus and murders innocent people - as awful and shocking as that is - it's not terrorism. The law says NOTHING about whether or not the perpetrator of the crime is Jewish or Arab. The families of people murdered by a lone Arab nut would also not receive the terrorism stipend from the government. The families of Arabs murdered by a Jewish member of an illegal Jewish organization - like the racist Kach movement - WOULD be eligible to receive the payment. The logic behind this law is to distinguish between people who are murdered in the course of a formal civil conflict and people who are murdered by random crazies or psychopaths - a sane enough law, if you believe that terror victims deserve some special social consideration. Nothing in the text of the article supports what is obviously a very biased and inflamatory headline.

Hey, anonymous:

Could you post the law for me? The article says "organizations hostile to Israel," which is a bit different than what you say.

Thanks!

I remember there was a case a few years ago where the Israeli Supreme court was trying to decided if certain forms of torture were legal. They decided that they were, but not if the torture was done to Jews. I guess they are one step ahead of us since our government seems to think that it's ok to torture everyone.

As of yet, no word from "anonymous." Not surprised.
