Hey! It's a Tragedy Publicity Stunt!

This is the kind of crassness that reveals how out-of-touch the Republicans have truly become. Imagine a rousing concert at Pearl Harbor to "celebrate the sacrifices" of veterans there. Why not just have a Hiroshima Party?

All very partisan, of course, with music catering to the specific tastes of one party's Heartland base.

A spectacle for all to gag on.

Check out the website they set up. You actually have to register to participate in this jingoistic death-party!

Enough to make decent people gag.

All this from the folks who brought you the 'Purple Heart' Band-Aid, a refreshing and new way to make fun of triple amputees.

This stuff speaks to thier immorality. We have to ridicule Republicans who claim that they are moral, and teach them what true character really is. We have to reclaim the mantle of morality which is rightly the property of progressives.

to infiltrate or to pelt, that is the question!

it's so tricky, coz we're still in a world where free speech to question a march like this can be fraked as sacrilege.

Yeah I would agree Palmer, open protesting would be counter-productive : the best way is to let the most obviously offended (9/11 victims, Iraq war soldier's families) testify in the media to the effect of how this trivializes their experiences.

Also being considered is a simultaneous vigil in Arlington cemetery, with rows of silent witnesses standing with their backs to the ongoing Carnival.

Why not have a Hiroshima party? The atomic bombings saved thousands if not hundreds of thousands of lives.

Hi queer conservative:

At the cost of around 200,000 can possibly argue for Hiroshima (I'd disagree with you), but how do you account for Nagasaki, which detonates 69 hours after Hiroshima?

How long, back then, do you think it took to figure out what the hell Hiroshima was, let alone what to do about it?

Bottom line: we could have blockaded Japan; we chose mass murder with a weapon that may destroy our civilization -- or our species.

That's certainly something to be proud of.

As for the Pearl-Harbor party, it's clearly yet another opportunity for this administration to further cover its lies and mishandling of Iraq and the "war on terror" or whatever they're calling it this week (the product launches in September, I believe).

I also don't think that mass protests don't work. I know that many talking heads like to claim that, but no change ever occurred without mass protests, so I'm down.

Not that the Sheehan movement is a bad thing, but I don't edit my freedoms of speech or assembly for anyone.
