For Those of You Into a New Enlightenment...

I think I may actually go to this...

Join us as we respond to the assaults on Science, Reason, Free Inquiry, Secularism, and Humanist Values

A once in a lifetime gathering providing new directions...... Toward a New Enlightenment !

An Important Message from Dr. Paul Kurtz:

Dear Friends:

May we invite you to join us for a unique World Congress to be held October 27-30, 2005 on the Niagara Frontier in beautiful Western New York. Meetings will be held at the State University of New York at Buffalo (Amherst campus), the Center for Inquiry –Transnational, and the Buffalo-Niagara Marriott Hotel, Amherst.

The theme of the Congress is “Toward a New Enlightenment.” The original Enlightenment inspired so much that is positive in the modern world: human rights, democracy, science, secularism, economic growth, education, and progress. Today its basic values are being challenged. What can we do to develop a New Enlightenment? That is a vital question which this World Congress will address; and it will bring leaders of thought and action from seventeen countries including England, France, Canada, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Serbia, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Bangladesh, Iran, Pakistan, Colombia, India, and the United States.

The convening of the Congress marks the 25th anniversary of the Council for Secular Humanism, publishers of Free Inquiry, the leading secularist freethought magazine in the world. This Congress is co-sponsored by the International Academy of Humanism, which was founded under the auspices of the Council for Secular Humanism. It is comprised of eighty distinguished Humanist Laureates.

The Congress will also host meetings of two of the Council’s autonomous organizations:

* The Committee for the Scientific Examination of Religion, headed by Professor R. Joseph Hoffmann.
* The Institute for the Secularization of Islamic Societies, chaired by Ibn Warraq, leading critic of Islam.

Finally, this Congress will celebrate the opening of a spanking new building, the latest and most impressive expansion of the Center for Inquiry - Transnational. Richard Dawkins, Ann Druyan and other luminaries will host an exclusive Grand Opening Celebration.

We are witness today to the incessant assaults on the ideals of the Enlightenment by anti-democratic and anti-scientific forces who wish to repeal the modern world and turn the clock back. This Congress will seek to respond to these criticisms and to suggest paths for a new future—in which freedom and reason will play a significant role.

We hope that you will wish to take part in these exciting sessions.

Don't miss out on this pivotal event!

Sincerely yours,

Paul Kurtz
Chairman
